Privacy Policy · Kalamanam (కాలమానం)

Effective August 20, 2026 · applies to the Kalamanam website (kalamanam.com) and the Kalamanam iOS and Android apps.

The short version

Kalamanam collects no personal data unless you choose to send us feedback. There are no accounts, no analytics trackers, no ads, and no data sold or shared. Everything the almanac computes happens on your device.

Location

If you grant location permission, your coordinates are used on your device to compute sunrise, sunset and panchangam timings for where you are, and to find Hindu temples near you. Your location is stored only on your device (so the app remembers your city) and is never sent to our servers or linked to your identity.

Temple search

When you open the Temples tab, the app sends the map coordinates being searched (not your identity) to our server, which queries Google Places and OpenStreetMap for nearby temples. These requests contain no account, device identifier, or personal information.

Preferences

Your settings (language, time format, saved locations, reminder preference) are stored locally on your device only. Deleting the app deletes them.

Usage statistics

To improve Kalamanam we count anonymous usage events (for example, which screens are opened and which features are used). These are tied to a random identifier generated on your device, never to your name, contacts, or location, and are stored on our own servers, not with any third-party analytics company. Events are automatically deleted within 90 days, and you can erase them immediately anytime via Settings → Delete my data (this removes every event tied to your device’s random identifier and issues a fresh one). You can turn collection off anytime in Settings → Usage statistics.

Feedback

If you choose to use the feedback button, the comment you write is sent to our own server so we can read it and improve the app. Giving your name and email is optional and only helps us reply to you; leave them blank to send feedback anonymously. You may also optionally attach a screenshot of the screen you are on. The screenshot is taken only when you tap the feedback button, you can preview it and choose not to include it before sending, and it may show whatever is on screen (including any family details you have added). We use feedback solely to understand and fix issues; it is stored on our own servers, never sold or shared, and never used for advertising. To have your feedback and any attached screenshot deleted, email kalamanam.app@gmail.com.

Children

Kalamanam is a general-audience reference app and is not directed at children. It collects no data from anyone, including children, except the feedback you choose to send.

Text sources

The Sanskrit verses of the Devi Mahatmyam (Durga Saptashati), the Devi ashtottara namavalis, and allied hymns in the Bhakti section are ancient, public-domain scripture. The Telugu-script text was prepared with reference to the volunteer transcriptions at sanskritdocuments.org, with gratitude to those contributors. The English and Telugu meanings are our own original wording, offered for study and not yet verified by a vadhyar.

Changes & contact

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at kalamanam.com/privacy.html with a new effective date. Questions: kalamanam.app@gmail.com.
